Embrace Your Personality
This year in celebration of my birthday I wanted to do a fun, bright and playful photoshoot. Not only did I want photos, but I also wanted to incorporate a short video into my session. Since my birthday is in June, I thought it would be great to capture an outdoor summer session in my backyard. Maybe not just any backyard session, I wanted the shoot to tell the story of a modern-day housewife with not a care in the world. Sounds perfect for Gemini Season, right?!

Tip: The best aesthetic photography ideas are going to be born from your own personality. How can you capture the essence of YOU? I’ll explain below...
The first question I had to ask myself was “What would I wear?”. I decided on summer attire and bright vibrant colors. I thought yellow and green with a pop of hot pink would complement my skin tone well, maybe a bathing suit with shorts, a sheer long robe to add a little razzle dazzle would be nice, oh and yes, soda can rollers for the final touch. Now my creative juices are really flowing because I have now decided that I should use Sprite cans to tie in the two colors (green and yellow) and have even tried to calculate how many soda cans I would need to cover my head. I will say that I made a lot of soda-punch prior to my session, but nothing was wasted.

Everything seemed to be coming along well but something was missing. I felt like I needed to add an item to my shoot to tie the outdoorsy theme into session a bit more. So, as I am standing in the driveway analyzing the area I thought hmm my husband’s John Deere seemed to be a great addition, and it is the perfect shade of green. Now the bigger question is, will this take minimal or maximum convincing because I do NOT know how to operate this machine, nor did I want to learn. I just need it in my shoot. It’s funny because I’ve never cut grass a day in my life, and with this grass allergy I don’t see it in my future either but nonetheless, it would be a great photo prop.

My thoughts were coming together quite nicely in my mind, but I felt like I needed to solidify my ideas (before I'd forget). I created my digital my inspo board that were just a bunch of random ideas, color scheme, and shared it with 2K's assistant photographer who was the main photographer that day (also my daughter) so she could visibly see my vision. She not only saw my vision, but she also even added a few great suggestions. We found a little more inspiration on TikTok and Pinterest by searching related hashtags and topics. BTW, feel free to pin any of these photos on Pinterest ;)
Tip: Inspiration boards, also known as mood boards or vision boards, are visual collections of images, text, and objects that represent a desired aesthetic, vibe and concept. It serves as a visual guide for idea generation and motivation. Showing your photographer your ideas helps to prepare for your shoot and your photographer can add their own creative direction. Although I created my inspo board in Canva, you can always gather your favorite photos and add them to a new gallery in your phone.

So now it’s shooting day and were headed to the backyard. Literally laughing because who really wears hot pink heels and a long robe with a yorkie in hand to cut the grass. I guess you’ve got to do whatever it takes for the look that you’re going for. We had a lot of fun that day and my photographer gave great directions (look away, laugh, pet the dog, try not to fall, take a selfie). I'm not a big soda drinker but I rewarded myself with an ice cold Sprite at the end of the shoot. As I look back at the photos, I can tell that the photos are 100% MY VIBE.
